Cyrenian House - Therapeutic Community (Saranna Women and Children’s Program)

The Saranna Women and Children's Program is a residential alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment program which enables women to live with and care for their young children onsite whilst engaging in AOD treatment. Each family is accommodated in their own individual house on the property. To enable mothers to fully participate in the treatment program children attend a local primary school, or our purpose built childcare centre located in the grounds of the property.

Services provided

Assessment

Assessment is conducted by the Saranna Outreach worker. The Outreach worker provides 1:1 assessment, telephone assessment and support for rural and remote women and referral to additional services as needed. The Outreach worker provides a point of contact for people who have assessed for the program and require support to prepare for admission.

Treatment

The residential treatment program consists of:  

• An individual treatment plan to address AOD issues, enhance parenting and life skills, and strengthen family relationships
• Family support from team of professional staff
• Medical services provided by the on-site weekly GP Clinic and local child health nurse • Education groups on cultural security, gender & health issues
• Recreational activities
• Therapeutic groups using the Community as Method treatment approach
• Vocational assessment and assistance
• Links to community self help groups
• Consumer feedback where forums are provided for residents to give feedback about all elements of the service

After Care

After completing the residential program families can access support through a variety of means:  

• Ongoing counselling through Cyrenian House Non Residential Services
• Support and advocacy through the Saranna Outreach Home Visiting Program
• Referral to other AOD and/or allied health services, parenting services and children’s services

Target Groups

• Women seeking residential AOD treatment who have young children in their care

Entry Requirements

• Assessments are conducted by the Saranna Outreach worker. There may be a waiting list
• Applicants must show a commitment by attending support and counselling sessions whilst preparing for residential treatment
